AAR-H type couplers with balance draft gear (BDG) for passenger coaches
Sona Comstar AAR-H type coupler has been developed in-house for passenger coach application. It is a high tensile tight lock centre buffer coupler. Sona Comstar make High Tensile Tight Lock Transition CBC with AAR 'H' type head are for Broad Gauge Electric Locomotives (WAP-7) of Indian railways. When coupled with another Loco or Coach fitted with AAR-H type Coupler or Hook end, it allows the Loco & Coach to move and accommodate track curvature, differences in vertical height & horizontal distance, while all the time staying in coupled condition. Engagement of one coupler with another coupler is automatic. However, unlocking to be done manually. It is equipped with manual uncoupling device to unlock the coupler from outside the track.
The AAR-H Type Head Loco Couplers consists of the following main components:

Sona Comstar make Loco couplers have been designed with single pin clevis which provides couplability with both Center Buffer Couplers and Hook type Couplers. They are designed for a tensile load capacity of up to 400 tons. Hence capable of hauling a rake of 26 coaches.
